Girl Scout trip to Franklin Institute

Our Brownie troop took a trip to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia over the weekend.  The girls all seemed to have a good time.  I did too, other than counting to 5 over and over again to make sure we didn’t lose anyone!

In addition to going around the museum, we also saw a planetarium show and a 3D show.  Megan kept repeating “This is so cool” over and over during the planetarium show.  It was fun to see her so excited about it.

In the summer, they will be bringing in an exhibit about mummies from around the world.  If Megan is interested, I would like to take her for that and take Molly to see the museum.  There are a lot of neat things there to see and do.

Spring is here!

Amidst the flurry of moving to a new house, I have lost track of my poor neglected blog.  We’ve been here in the new house for about 2 months and it’s feeling like home.  There are still boxes to unpack, but they’re things we don’t use often so we’re living without them for now.  It’s kind of nice to not have so much stuff…much of it will likely be donated to Salvation Army or someplace similar rather than finding places on our shelves.  We unpacked our books this weekend and sent about 4 small boxes of them to the library for their annual book sale. We’d like to continue that trend with all the boxes we unpack!

Our new house sports a lovely flower bed in the front full of all sorts of shrubs and with daffodils lining the front of it.  We have a nice-sized hydrangea that is covered in buds..  I can’t wait to see them when they are all in bloom.  All this green sprouting up in the otherwise dul brown landscape really makes me happy that spring

The back yard is full of more goodies.  We have more daffodils, as well as several other bulb type plants that we have not yet identified.  We think several might be lilies and/or irises of various sorts.  Then there is a forsythia bush whose buds are getting ready to burst open. Good thing, because it hasn’t been trimmed in a few years and it’s kind of growing into the driveway.  I told Scott he can trim it back as soon as we’re done enjoying the flowers 🙂

The last photo above seems like it was once a kitchen garden of sorts.  There is a boxwood in the center (that fell over and is likely to be relocated altogether).  To the left there is a HUGE rosemary plant that is mostly dried out.  I trimmed off the dead stuff and left the green parts.  The plant to the right of it seems to be another herb – I think it’s maybe thyme?  Either that or lamb’s ears – the leaves are very soft.  I’m planning on cleaning out the rest of the sections and planting a few tomatoes and other assorted veggies and herbs in them.

Molly helped with the survey of the plants.  She is excited to see everything bloom, too.  I have a feeling this spring is going to be very fun, watching what sort of flowers come out on all these plants.

FIVE

FIVE

Wow, my baby girl is FIVE.  That seems so big, so old, so…not a baby anymore.  She really is growing up so fast, seems like just yesterday she was a baby.  I keep telling her no matter what, she’ll always be my “baby”.  As she gets older, she’s not so keen on being called that, so please don’t tell her 🙂

We had a great time celebrating her birthday.  On her birthday morning, she opened her gifts from the family.  Megan had helped me wrap them up so she was in on the secrets.  She was very proud of herself for not giving any of them away…so was I!

Molly had a great time opening them all, but I think it’s clear which was her favorite.  She had received a Bitty Baby for Christmas, and she has been wanting another one for several months.  No matter what other toy I suggested, she always came back to wanting another Bitty Baby…so that’s what we got her!

On the Sunday after her birthday (Halloween, coincidentally) Molly had her very first “friends” birthday party.  It was held at Paulus Orchards – one of our favorite places to go in the fall.  Molly and her friends had a blast playing on the slides, in the play house and finding their way through the corn maze.  We also went on a wagon ride, and of course, had cake and more presents!

2010-10-31She had so much anticipation for this day, I hope that she enjoyed herself.  I’m guessing she did, tremendously, because she is already asking how long till her next birthday. I’m enjoying every moment of her growing up and wish time would slow down a bit so I can savor the moments just a bit longer.

P.S. I decided to try some photo collages to allow more photos in one post.  If you want to see bigger pictures, the set is here on Flickr.
