Christmas Girls

This is my favorite photo from our Christmas gatherings over the weekend before Christmas day. This was taken on the second day of Megan wearing her Santa dress – she wore it for three days straight. At least she didn’t sleep in it! Posted by Picasa

Cheerleader in the making

Lately we’ve been talking about how cute and bubbly Megan’s personality can be. How she’s good at making friends. How someday, she’ll be the popular kid at school, who’s also nice to everyone. We also mentioned that she’d be a great cheerleader someday.

When I found this cheerleader’s uniform in Megan’s size at the consignment store, I couldn’t pass it up. I showed it to her and she wanted to put it on even though she had no idea what a cheerleader was. As soon as she had it on, she looked the part. We found some videos on the internet and she decided that when she’s a teenager in high school, she wants to be a cheerleader. Just like Mommy. Posted by Picasa

A new baby…

Kathy had her baby yesterday. They named him Trevor Keiji. The middle name is Hawaiian or Japanese – I have to find out what it means still. He weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz. and was 19 inches long. They’ve gone home from the hospital already, so I guess she’s doing ok. I can’t wait to meet him this weekend. Here’s a picture…isn’t he cute?

And she's off…

Molly took her “first” steps this weekend. They’ve been telling me all week at day care that she was walking, but I’d never seen her do it. I think she was holding out on me. Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, she didn’t do it until I saw it!

On Saturday, she was standing in the kitchen doorway at my parents’ house, and most of us were in the kitchen. She just took off walking into the kitchen, we all cheered. She fell, but then got back up and walked a few more steps to get to me. I had tears in my eyes…I was so proud of her. She’s been cruising the furniture for months, and standing unassisted for minutes at a time for at least a month. I knew she had to be close, I guess she was just waiting to show it off at the right moment. My parents were thrilled that they got to see her first steps, too.

So, by her birthday next weekend, she’ll probably be into everything…

The Red Dress, Part 2

So Megan had a red dress last fall & winter (see picture below). It wasn’t anything fancy, just cotton with flowers. I had even bought it second hand. I had no idea it would be such a hit, but she absolutely loved it. She wanted to wear it every day. And sleep in it. She was obsessed with the red dress. She was devistated when warm weather came this spring, and she had to stop wearing it. Of course, it was getting too small, so it wasn’t lasting much longer anyway.

Well, when it started getting cooler again, she asked about her red dress. I explained it was too small, and she was ok with that. But she looked a little sad. And so I went searching on eBay. After bidding on several auctions for similar dresses, and losing, I found THE dress in her size. I was so excited. I bid well over what any sane person would spend on a dress for a preschooler, and surprisingly won it for merely $3.24.

When the box arrived, I acted fairly nonchalant about it and let her open it. At first she said “It’s a beautiful red dress.” As she inspected it more closely, the light came on and she got so excited when she realized it was just like the one from last year. Of course, she stripped right there in the living room to change into it (see picture above). I am pretty sure it made her day.

I hope she doesn’t grow out of this one before the novelty wears off. But just in case, I’m already looking for the next size up! Posted by Picasa
