North Road Rules

A couple weeks ago this old Schwinn Collegiate decided to come live at our house, to take me for a ride sometimes. In return, I have to provide shelter (porch), food (lube), and clothing (Simichrome). She and I met yesterday, spent a few hours getting to know each other, and then, this afternoon when the rain quit, we went for our first ride together. I really tried hard to not smile, but I couldn’t hold back. This is, by far, the BEST. BIKE. EVER.

She’s a couple years older than me, has the typical creaks and groans for her age, and even a few battle scars. Hell, I have all that. We’re both overweight. Her brakes are grabby and ineffective. I can’t make her go fast, so it doesn’t matter. She and I are going to get along fine. 5 out of 5 dust caps.

Now if only I knew her name…

You shoulda come to Pittsburgh on Sunday for “Pedal Pittsburgh”. I did the 60-mile option but there were 25, 35 and 50-mile courses as well. We got some *serious* hills here in the burgh! And they saved the toughest for the last 10 miles of the 60…

We gots hills here, too, Gromit. But yeah, next time let me know BEFORE the ride and I’ll try to make it.

  5. the Sloth says:

KAT! Where have you been, doll?

She’s actually a coppery brown color. But I just finished assembling the new touring bike – she’s black AND red. So maybe I’ll call her Betty.

  6. the Sloth says:

Where were you before I got married, Heather?

  7. heather says:
