{"id":617,"date":"2011-08-10T21:47:59","date_gmt":"2011-08-11T01:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/twosixteen.com\/christie\/?p=617"},"modified":"2011-08-10T21:56:39","modified_gmt":"2011-08-11T01:56:39","slug":"happy-national-smores-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twosixteen.com\/christie\/2011\/08\/10\/happy-national-smores-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy National S&#8217;mores Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I learned this morning that today is National S&#8217;mores Day. \u00a0August 10, every year. \u00a0How could I have missed that? \u00a0Since we had all the main ingredients in the kitchen, I could hardly resist. \u00a0I have seen several recipes for s&#8217;mores bars around the internet and thought that would be a fun way to mix it up since we can&#8217;t exactly build a fire in our back yard. \u00a0We didn&#8217;t have all the ingredients for any one recipe, so we kind of made it up as we went along &#8211; the girls did most of the hard work while I took photos \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Molly crunched up some graham crackers.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030922712[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>Megan sliced up the big marshmallows we had into smaller pieces.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030367309[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>Then they mixed the crushed up graham crackers into some melted butter. \u00a0I also added a little salt and some sugar, but after tasting them, I think we could have done without the sugar.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030922882[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>Molly buttered the pan.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030923030[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>Then we pressed the graham cracker crumbly mess into the bottom of the pan. \u00a0Molly had the bright idea of using Nutella. \u00a0Since we only had a little bit left, I thought &#8220;Why not?&#8221; \u00a0On top of the Nutella they scattered about half a bag of chocolate chunks. \u00a0Then they arranged the marshmallows on top.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030367787[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>We had set aside a little of the graham cracker crumb mixture to sprinkle over the top. \u00a0Here they are jockeying to see who can do sprinkle more of it.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030376767[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>We baked them for about 20 minutes till they got nice and toasty brown on top.<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030368029[\/flickr]<\/p>\n<p>I let them cool for a bit, and then we cut into them. \u00a0They were hard to cut because they were so sticky &#8211; I think refrigerating them would have helped a lot, but there wasn&#8217;t time for that before bedtime. \u00a0Two happy girls:<br \/>\n[flickr]photo:6030923628[\/flickr] [flickr]photo:6030923704[\/flickr]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I learned this morning that today is National S&#8217;mores Day.
